Sheremetyevo International Airport

Located in the northwest of Central Moscow, the Sheremetyevo International Airport is one of the busiest in Russia. It was originally meant to be a military airbase but was later converted into a commercial airport in 1959. The establishment is named after the famous Russian poet, Alexander Pushkin.

The airport is approximately 30 km from Central Moscow. Public transportation services are available. You may opt to ride the Aeroexpress, an airport rail link service, or book a taxi from public transit stations.

The airport spans four terminals, which are divided into two groups based on their location. Terminals B and C are located in the northern complex while terminals D, E, and F are situated in the south.

Tourists and frequent flyers in the Sheremetyevo International Airport will find a myriad of well-known fast food restaurants in the areas—especially in terminals D, E, and F. Dozens of airport lounges are readily available, accessible through prepaid lounge passes sold at the airport, orthrough select membership programs. Most convenience stores, souvenir shops, and international boutiques can also be found in the South terminals. You can also check out permanent and rotating art exhibits on display, including the very statue of Alexander Pushkin himself.
After booking your airport taxi service, try dropping by nearby attractions such as the Red Square, the Presidential Residence, and St. Basil’s Cathedral. For art and history enthusiasts, the Treytyakov Gallery, Art Gallery of Europe and America, T-34 Tank History Museum, Khimki Art Gallery and the Museum of Soviet Arcade Machines are also worth visiting. Enjoy the bustling streets and picture-perfect landscape of the Gorky Park where you can also rent your own bike and skating gear.

Approximately 5 km away from the Sheremetyevo Airport, you’ll find the Monument to Miguel de Cervantes, built in the 1981 to honor the Spanish Poet. This statue is only one of the few things you can see when visiting Moscow.  Just a 30 minute drive from the airport, you can visit Zaryadye Park, an urban park landscape located adjacent to Red Square in Moscow, on the site of the former Rossiya Hotel.

This tourist spot was recently inaugurated on September 9, 2017, marking the first time a park was built in Moscow in over 52 years. The site’s total area and facilities measure about 78,000 square meters. Visit the floating bridge and take pictures of the Moscow River.

The Media Center is a must-visit for history and architecture aficionados. In one of the pavilions of the Media Center, films about cultural monuments, protected areas, and historical places in Russia are shown for the public and tourists.
One of the pavilions in the park houses an interactive exhibition about the history of Russia’s frigid North. The pavilion maintains below-zero temperature all-year round. Inside the ice cave, you’ll encounter the Conservation Embassy, an educational site where educational programs are conducted as well as exchange experiences in the field of biology and ecology.
